Under the stars, David asked what we are

This portion opens on October 7, 2026.

An imagined night scene of young David reclining against rocks on a hillside, a lyre on his chest and a sheep asleep beside him, gazing up at a full moon in an immense starry sky.

David gazes at the night sky and calls it fingerwork.

"When I behold Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place…"

Not arms. Fingers. To God, the sky is detail work.

Then David asks: what are we in comparison to the stars?

David suggests an answer.

"You made him a little lower than the angels; You crowned him with glory and honor."

Crowned with glory and honor. Some days we don't feel crowned. We feel small.

One of eight billion. A mere rounding error compared to the universe. A forgotten name in someone's contacts. A number in a waiting room.

We are small. Psalm 8 doesn't argue with that.

But small and unimportant aren't the same thing.

Bearing God's image doesn't make us big. It makes us His. Crowned by Him, no matter what we’ve done.

So go outside tonight. Find the stars and feel small.

Then, when you feel smallest, ask why you stop at "What is man?"

Could you let God finish the answer?
