Dad's Prayer for January 4th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I do not want to stay the same this year.

Peter wrote to grow in Your grace and in knowing Jesus. I want that too. Not so others will see it. Not so I can talk about it. Quiet growth, like a tree adding a ring no one sees.

Father, cut away the parts of me that are just for show. Strengthen the parts that bear real fruit. Help me care less about who notices and more about whether You see.

If a year from now, my wife says I am easier to live with, let that count. If my son says I listened better, let that count. The rest can stay between You and me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

  1. But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and forever. Amen.
