Dads
Dad’s Prayer for January 5th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, the kitchen light is on, and the rest of the house is dark. Genesis 1:4 says You divided light from darkness and called the light good. That is what I am asking for now. Not a big, dramatic moment. Just enough light to know which side of the line I am on today. Where am I telling myself stories that are not true? Where am I calling something fine when it is not fine? Show me, gently. Not to crush me. To make me ready for the day ahead. Then divide my heart from the things that want to stay in it but should not. The resentments. The small dishonesties. Push them back to their side of the line and let me cross to Yours. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
