Dads
Dad's Prayer for January 6th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, it is Saturday morning. The garage smells like sawdust. There is a half-finished list of things I keep meaning to fix. Underneath that list is one I have not written down: the bills, the worries I carry alone, the relationships that are wearing thin. Your Word says to cast all my cares on You because You care for me. So I am bringing my hidden list into the open. I cannot fix these things by being strong on my own. I am not asking You to do my work. I am asking You to hold the dread underneath it. Keep me from carrying it back inside on my shoulders tonight. Let me come in lighter than I went out, even if nothing on the list got done. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
