Dads
Dad's Prayer for January 12th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, Paul told the church, "You belong to Christ." That was said over my head before I had a vote. I keep forgetting that. I keep acting like each day is a test of whether I belong. Sink that one fact into me by lunchtime. I am Yours when the meeting goes well. I am Yours when it goes badly. I am Yours when the kids are proud of me. I am Yours when they are disappointed. So I do not have to perform this morning to still be Yours by evening. That settles something I have been bracing against for years without knowing why. Let me work today out of that settled place. Easy hands. Honest words. No auditioning. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
