Dads
Dad's Prayer for January 14th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, You are mighty to save. I have a friend who is drinking again. I do not know how his marriage is holding together. I do not know what to say next. Show Yourself mighty in his life. I am not asking for a clean story to tell. I am asking for the quiet mercy of a man who comes back. Use me as an honest neighbor while I wait. Keep me from preaching at him. Keep me from pretending I do not see. Give me the right sentence at the right moment, the one he can hear without shutting down. And while I pray for him, search me. I have my own bottle to put down. I have my own corner, and I am not telling anyone about it. Be mighty to save him. Be mighty to save me, too. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
