Dads
Dad's Prayer for January 24th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, You promised to deliver me from hidden traps. I forget how many snares are set in an ordinary week. The browser tab I should not have opened last night. The whispered office gossip that pulls me in. The shortcut on a tax form. The five-minute slip into self-pity that ruins an afternoon. Walk me through the field with my eyes open. I do not want to be foolish, and I do not want to be afraid. Just let me see the wire before my foot is in it. And when I do step in one — because I will — pull me out fast, before the small thing becomes the bigger thing it was always trying to be.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
