Dads
Dad's Prayer for February 17th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, You are the Living One who sees me. You have given me a place to dwell, a well to return to. I am not naturally drawn to staying. I am drawn to scaling, reaching and producing. Make me a man who can settle by the well You have provided. The neighborhood I am tempted to outgrow. The local church that is not impressive. The job that is steady and unremarkable. If You wanted me somewhere flashier, You would have said so. Until then, let me dwell here gladly. Drink. Tend. Be seen by the Living One who is enough. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
