Dads
Dad’s Prayer for March 11th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, I tend to minimize. The white lie was just polite. The flash of contempt at the slower driver was just venting. The shortcut on the expense report was just that everyone does it. But Romans 7 says sin is worse than I want to admit. Show me the family resemblance between my polite sins and the ones I would clearly call ugly. Not so I drown in shame. So I confess them for what they are, instead of dressing them in nicer clothes. Honest accounting is the start of repair. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Did then that which is good become death to me? May it never be! But sin, that it might be shown to be sin, was producing death in me through that which is good; that through the commandment sin might become exceedingly sinful.
Romans 7:13
