Dads
Dad's Prayer for April 5th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord, this year handed me things I never signed up for. The unexpected care for aging parents. The financial pressure I did not see coming. The complicated season with one of my kids. None of it was on my list. All of it is mine to carry now.
Simon of Cyrene was just passing through when soldiers pressed him to carry the cross behind Jesus. He did not volunteer. He got drafted into something heavy. That is where I feel like I am right now.
So let me carry this behind You, not in front of You. You are the one who knows where it goes. I am not after being remembered. I am after the willingness to keep walking when something heavier than I expected gets dropped on my shoulder.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
