Dad’s Prayer for April 22nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Lord Jesus, You are the Prince and Savior, exalted to give repentance. Even my repentance is a gift from You, not something I earn. I have been trying to make myself feel bad enough, but the verse says it comes from You. So I ask You for it. Specifically, about the way I spoke to my wife last night. About the corner of my work, I have been cutting. About the longer-running pattern, I do not know how to break it. Give me real repentance, not just regret. Turn me, gently and fully. I am Yours; do what only You can do in me.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
