Dad's Prayer for April 30th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I have been murmuring. Under my breath about the drive, the work, the weather, the ordinary things in front of me. Each complaint feels small. Stacked up, they show a man who is not happy. Catch me at it. Trade my murmuring for a quieter kind of thanks. Not the loud kind. The kind that notices the sandwich, the seat, the warm light through the kitchen window. Over the course of this week, let me complain less and notice more. By Saturday, let my mouth have changed. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
