Dads

Dad's Prayer for June 22nd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says, "He shall build the temple of the Lord; and He shall bear the glory." The builder is the one who gets the glory. I have been trying to build small temples and grab small glories of my own. The work wins that make me feel important. The right people thinking well of me. The version of my house and family I post online. None of these are Your temple. None of these are worth the glory I try to wring from them. Christ builds the real temple. Christ bears the real glory. Let me work on whatever piece of the project You hand me without trying to steal the praise for myself.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. He will build Yahweh’s temple. He will bear the glory, and will sit and rule on his throne. He will be a priest on his throne. The counsel of peace will be between them both.
