Dad’s Prayer for June 23rd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Your Word says, "Ephraim is a cake not turned." Burnt on one side. Raw on the other. That is me.

I am a partial Christian in places. I pray but lose my temper. I am kind to strangers but short with the people at home. I work hard at the job, but slow down when my kids need help.

Turn the cake, Lord. Cook the parts that are still raw. Stop me from hiding in the things I am already good at. Help me face the parts I have been skipping.

The growth I need is in the places I have been ignoring. Give me eyes to see them. Give me the strength to show up there.

By the end of this summer, let there be fewer raw spots in me.

Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
