Dad's Prayer for July 1st: Living Water
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, the second half of the year is starting, and I am already tired. The house, the job, the school pickup, the bills — all the same demands just keep going. I do not need a fresh start as much as I need a steady source.
You said in Zechariah 14:8 that living water runs in summer and winter alike. The stream does not dry out when it gets hot, and it does not freeze when it gets cold. That is the kind of supply I need — not a break, not a reset, but a current I can drink from on an ordinary Tuesday.
Keep me from running on yesterday's strength. When the week gets hard, draw me to You instead of to the screen, the snack, the silent grudge. Let me show up for my family out of what I receive from You today, not what I have left over from before.
Lord Jesus, You are the same all the way through. Make me a man who does the next ordinary thing in Your strength.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
It will happen in that day that living waters will go out from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea, and half of them toward the western sea. It will be so in summer and in winter.
