Dad's Prayer for July 23rd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, there is a word about people who stood on the hill and watched while their own family was in trouble. They did not help. They just looked on.

I do not want to be like that. I have brothers in the faith going through hard things right now. A buddy whose marriage is shaky. A guy from church who lost his job. A neighbor whose kid is struggling. It is easy to know about all of it and do nothing. To stay on the hill.

Help me come down. Not to fix. Not to lecture. Not even to have the right words. Just to show up. A text I will follow with a phone call. A coffee I will actually schedule. A meal I will drop off without making it a big thing.

Lord Jesus, You did not stay on the hill while we were in trouble. You came all the way down. Train me to follow You in the smallest way I can this week.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.

  1. In the day that you stood on the other side, in the day that strangers carried away his substance and foreigners entered into his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, even you were like one of them.
