Dad's Prayer for August 6th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, the watchman in Isaiah was asked, "What of the night?" People wanted to know if morning was coming. I have been asking myself the same question all week. About the economy. About my kid's hard stretch. About a friend who is sick.

I do not have an answer for the night. I do not know when the morning comes. But You said in Your word that the morning does come. The watchman's job is not to make the dawn. It is to stay at the post and tell the truth.

So I will stay at my post. Pray for my family. Do my work with integrity. Keep my mouth from gossip and complaint. Show up to church even when I am tired. I cannot make the dawn arrive. I can hold the watch until it does.

Lord Jesus, You came as the bright morning star. You will come again. In the meantime, give me steadiness through whatever night is still left.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
