Dads
Dad's Prayer for August 8th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Isaiah 59:5 talks about spider webs. They are made to catch, but they are too weak to wear. I have built my share of those.
The plan to be a better dad that lasted four days. The promise to call my brother that I still have not kept. The Bible reading that stopped on day twelve. I meant them when I said them. But none of them held.
Help me see the difference between webs and cloth. Webs come from me alone. They are spun on excitement, and they break fast. Cloth comes from Your grace. It is woven over time. It lasts after the excitement is gone.
I do not need a big promise today. Help me do one small thing You have put in front of me. The talk I have been putting off. The apology I owe. The time I should give my kid.
Lord Jesus, You made a robe that was woven in one piece, not a brittle web. Let what You build in me this week be strong enough to last.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
