Dads Prayer for August 23rd

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You promised a day when no one cries anymore. No more bad news. No more funerals for our kids. I cannot make that day come, but I know it is coming.

Hold me to that promise without letting me ignore the pain right now. This week is heavy. There is a hard diagnosis. A marriage fell apart. A kid I love is struggling. I do not need to hide any of that. The tears are allowed for now.

What You change is what I see ahead. I can let grief be grief because it is not the end of the story. I can be with people who are crying without trying to fix it all. I can sit down, listen, hand them a tissue, and trust You with the day You will make all things right.

Lord Jesus, You will wipe every tear from our eyes. Until that day, let me be the kind of dad whose presence makes the waiting less lonely.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
