Dad's Prayer for October 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father,

You told Peter to go out into the deep water and let down his nets.Peter had fished all night and caught nothing. The deep was the last place he wanted to go.Tired men want shore.

I am at the shore in parts of my life.Tired of trying.Tired of praying about the same thing.Tired of what is still broken after a long time. The temptation is to fold the nets and quit.

You are saying, go a little farther. Not forever.Just one more act of trust.Sometimes the catch comes after the night looked empty.

Lord Jesus,You see the deep water that scares me,And You go there with me.Help me let down the nets one more timeIn the place I had given up on.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
