Dad's Prayer for October 31st

A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me." David is not asking for small fixes. He is asking for a heart he did not have before.

I need that more than I usually admit. The patches I keep putting on my own heart wear off by Friday. The deeper work, a heart that wants the right things, a spirit that does not have to be dragged into obedience every morning, is beyond what I can do on my own.

So I am asking for something new, not just another touch-up. Not all at once, but as the work You will keep doing in me. Create what I cannot make.

Lord Jesus, You came to make all things new, including stubborn old hearts like mine. Start the next part of that work in me today.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
