Dads
Dad's Prayer for December 9th
A short, Scripture-shaped dads prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Isaiah 30:18 says You are waiting to be kind to me. You are not holding back. You are not waiting for me to get it all together. You are ready to pour out mercy. You want to.
That changes how I come to You. I sometimes picture You as tired of me. But that is not what Your Word says. The real picture is You leaning forward, waiting for me so You can act.
Help me believe that today. The confession I have been putting off—bring it. The request I was too embarrassed to ask again—make it. The need I have not let myself say out loud—name it. You are eager to be kind.
Lord Jesus, You showed us a Father who runs toward his child. Run toward me today. I am coming.
Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
Verses to pray
Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
Therefore Yahweh will wait, that he may be gracious to you; and therefore he will be exalted, that he may have mercy on you, for Yahweh is a God of justice. Blessed are all those who wait for him.
