Grandmother’s Prayer for March 20th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, hear me when I call, O God. You have made room for me when I was squeezed tight. Psalm 4:1.

Father, You have done this before. I have seen it. Each hard thing felt like walls closing in at the time. But each one turned out to be a door to a wider place. I know this because You showed me.

So I ask again this morning. There is a new pressing in. I will not list it all because You already know. Make me roomier inside it. Not by taking the hard thing away, only You know if You will. But by showing me there is more space inside these same circumstances than I knew existed before.

Show me again.

Hear me when I call. I call because You have heard me before. I come with confidence, not begging. You are the God who makes room. You are the God who has been making room in me for years.

Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
