Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for March 27th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Jacob held on through a long night and would not let go until You blessed him. I am too old for that kind of wrestling now. My holding on is slower. It is refusing to give up on someone I have prayed for since the day they were born. It is refusing to let grace become just a word I say but never lean on. It is holding a relationship I cannot fix and placing it in Your hands again and again. These things may not be settled in one night. They may not be settled in my lifetime. But Jacob would not let go without the blessing. And neither will I. You gave him a new name, a limp, and a new calling. You choose the shape of Your blessing, not me. So bless what I am holding before You today, in whatever way You know is best. I will not let it go. I am too old to be flashy about it. I am only too stubborn now to release what You have entrusted to me. Let the blessing come on Your schedule. And if I have to limp into the dawn, then let me limp.
Amen.
