Grandmothers
Grandmother’s Prayer for June 4th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says we have no lasting city here, but we are looking for the one that is coming, the one You have prepared. Hebrews 13:14.
I am old enough now to feel how true that is. This house is not my final home. This country is not my final home, though I love it. The lasting city is the one Your Son went ahead to prepare.
So I am learning to live lightly here. Gladly. With real affection for the people and places I know. But with my heart always looking ahead.
Let me keep that looking gentle today. Not anxious. Not in a hurry. Just the quiet knowing that the city is coming, the One who prepared it is sure, and looking forward is the right posture for a daughter still on the road.
I sit here at my table, by this window, on this ordinary day, and the journey has been good. The end will be better.
Amen.
