Grandmothers Prayer for June 5th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Jeremiah 23:6 gives Jesus a beautiful name: The Lord Our Righteousness. I have lived under that name longer than anywhere else. The righteousness is not mine. I did not earn it by being good. It is His, given to me through faith. That name tells me what He is for me, not what He demands from me before He becomes it. That truth has rescued me more than once. At twenty, when rules and religion were crushing me. At forty, when I was tempted to think I had finally earned my own standing. At seventy, looking back makes me want to grade my own life and panic at the score. But the name is His. The righteousness is His. The standing is His. I am on the receiving end. Let me rest in that name today. Not as a phrase, but as a Person, who is the same yesterday, today, and forever. The Lord my Righteousness. The day is small. The Person is large. The arrangement holds. Amen.
