Grandmother’s Prayer for June 7th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, You promised a highway for Your people, a way so plain that even the simple will not get lost. That word from Isaiah is for me today. I am not as quick as I used to be. My body is stiff in the morning. My mind does not hold names the way it once did. Still, You did not make the way of holiness a maze only the sharp can solve. You made it plain. You made it for the slow, the tired, and the old. You set it up so that all I have to do is walk. Love You with all I have. Love the person next to me. Walk humbly with You. That is not hard to understand. It is only hard to do. So let me walk it today. One step, then another, on a road so well marked that even a fool cannot miss it. I am old. I am not as sharp as I was. The way is still plain. The walking is still possible. The destination is still Your city. Let my feet answer Your promise. Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
