Grandmother’s Prayer for July 24th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Exodus 14:13 says to stand still and see Your salvation. That verse fits me now. When I was younger, I could not stand still. I wanted to fix things. I wanted to handle it all before You could. Now I know I cannot. The things in front of me today look like the sea. My middle son's marriage. My own diagnosis. The prodigal granddaughter. They are too wide for me to part. They have always been too wide. I tried for years to part them by worrying. The worry did not move a single drop of water. Lord, the Israelites did not part the sea. Moses did not part the sea. You parted the sea. They just stood while You did it. Stand me still this morning. Show me the salvation that is on its way. Show me the small piece I can see today. A phone call returned. A text answered. A name on the prayer list lifted up. Let that be enough. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
