Grandmother’s Prayer for July 29th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, this is a quiet morning. Nothing on the calendar. The cat is asleep on the chair across from me. There is no crisis. There is also no high feeling. My faith today is more like a chair I am sitting in than a fire I am tending. That is enough for a Tuesday in July. You are not more with me on Sunday than You are on Tuesday. You are with me continually. Not just when I feel it. Not just when I rise to the occasion. Lord Jesus, let me be at ease with the continual. Not striving for a higher moment. Not anxious because today is flat. Just here, in the chair, with the One who has been with me for decades and is still with me in this small, unremarkable morning. That is the relationship. That is enough. Amen.

- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
