Grandmother’s Prayer for September 10th
A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You went up on a mountain and called the ones You wanted, and they came. That is Mark 3:13 this morning, and it stopped me in my chair. Father, You have been calling me for years and years. The calling is not just one day long. It is a steady pull that does not quit. You have wanted my company for decades; I would not have picked myself. The angry years. The doubting years. The years I was too busy with the children to give You much time. You kept calling. I kept coming up the mountain, sometimes late, sometimes out of breath. The verse this morning reminds me that the calling is still happening. I am not done. I have not been let go. The going up is the simple obedience of today. Open the Bible. Stay a while. Listen. Do not rush off the mountain back into the small, busy errands. Today, let me come when You call. No delay. No arguing. The mountain is small at this age. It is this chair. It is the open page. It is the half hour before the world starts asking for me. Come up, You say. Coming. Slow and creaky, but coming. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
