Grandmother’s Prayer for October 16th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, in John 21:12, You stand on the shore with a fire and breakfast ready. You say, Come and dine. The disciples had worked all night. They were tired and empty. But You were waiting with food. Lord, this morning I hear those words. Come and dine. You are not waiting to point out my failures. You are calling me to a quiet meal by the fire. The food is ready. There is no shame in coming hungry. Lord Jesus, Your invitation has not changed. It is the same in every season. Let me come and dine. Let me sit. Let me eat. Let me listen for what You will say. There is a long day ahead, and the strength for it starts here. The work can wait. The boats can wait. Come and dine. I am coming. Amen.

  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
