Grandmother’s Prayer for November 27th

A short, Scripture-shaped grandmothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Zechariah 3 shows Joshua the high priest standing in filthy garments while Satan accuses him. But You did not wait for Joshua to defend himself. You rebuked the accuser. You stripped away the filthy clothes. You placed clean robes on him. You did it all.

Lord Jesus, that picture has been a mirror for me through the years. There is always an accuser. Sometimes it is my own inward voice saying, "You have failed too many times." Sometimes it is a real person's words. Sometimes it is a spiritual attack I cannot see. But the verse shows me what You do. You rebuke. You remove. You clothe.

You have done that for me more times than I can count. The accusations I could not answer were answered by You. The garments I could not wash were removed by You. The new robes I could not earn were placed on me by You.

Today, let me stand in those new robes. Not flinching at the accuser. Not arguing with him. Resting in the clothing You have already put on me. The court is settled. Walk me through this day in the right garments.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
