New Mothers Prayer for January 3rd

A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, today all I can hold is one verse and my baby's breath against my collarbone. Isaiah 49 says You gave Christ as a covenant for the people. That word feels like more than I can take in right now.

So let me sit with the smaller thing under it. You bound Yourself to me when I was nothing but need. You did not wait until I could pray well, sleep enough, or feel anything spiritual. You gave Yourself.

Help me not to measure my standing with You by how this day looks. The covenant did not begin with me and does not depend on my energy.

While the baby sleeps, let me sleep too if I can. While she wakes, let me know that You are in the room.

Amen.
