New Mothers Prayer for January 4th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Peter wrote to grow in grace and to know You better. I read that today and felt behind. I have not grown anything except dark circles. The plants on the windowsill are dying because I am holding a baby.
Show me that growing in You is not the same as getting more done. A tree does not try hard to grow. It just stays where it is planted and lets the seasons do their slow work.
I am being planted. I do not see roots. I do not see fruit. I see laundry.
Help me trust that quiet faithfulness in this season is its own kind of growth. Teach me to receive grace the way a baby receives milk, with my mouth open and my eyes closed.
Amen.

- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
