New Mothers Prayer for March 20th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Song of Solomon 2 says simply, "My beloved." Two words. The bride has nothing else to say, and nothing else needs to be said.
Tonight I have one word in my mouth too. It is not a request. It is a name. Jesus. My beloved.
I have loved You in busier ways before. Programs. Volunteering. Long evenings with friends and Scripture. Those are not where I am right now.
Right now, I love You from a rocking chair in the dark, with milk down the front of my shirt and a baby finally heavy with sleep. The love looks quieter and is just as real.
You are my beloved. Receive that as the whole prayer tonight.
Amen.

- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
