New Mothers Prayer for August 29th
A short, Scripture-shaped new mothers prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, in Psalm 51, David begins, 'Have mercy on me, O God.' That is the simplest prayer in the Bible, and it is the one I keep avoiding. I have been carrying a small shame this week. I sighed at the baby. I judged the woman at the playground. I stayed on the phone when I should have been present. Let me bring it to the older words. Have mercy on me, O God. Not 'fix me.' Not 'explain it away.' Mercy. Receive me again, and send me back to the kitchen with the slate clear. Amen.

- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
