Daniel In The Lion’s Den Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped bible story prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Daniel knew the law had been signed. It was now against the law to pray to anyone but the king. But Daniel went home and knelt by his window, the one that faced Jerusalem, just like he always had. Three times a day, he prayed and gave thanks to You. He did not hide. He did not whisper. He did not move to a back room. He kept doing what he had always done. They reported him. He was thrown to the lions. And You shut the lions' mouths. Father, make me a Daniel the next time I feel pressure to hide my faith. The lions today do not look the same, but they are real. Fear of losing my job. Fear of being laughed at. Fear of standing alone. You are the God who shut the mouths of real lions, and You are mighty over every fear I face. Give me the courage to keep praying, keep trusting, and keep my window open. In Jesus' name. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

  2. Then they came near, and spoke before the king concerning the king’s decree: “Haven’t you signed a decree that every man who makes a petition to any god or man within thirty days, except to you, O king, shall be cast into the den of lions?”
