Teens Prayer for April 8th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, I keep a list in my head of people who seem to be doing better than me. I update that list more than I update my to-do list. I have been comparing my real life to their best moments. That math will always make me lose. Take the list out of my head. Maybe their lives are good. Maybe their lives are not as good as they look. Either way, it has nothing to do with what I am supposed to be doing tonight. Pull me back from keeping score. Put me back inside my own life, the only one I get to live. Comparing my insides to other people's outsides is not honesty. It is a small private cruelty. End it tonight. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
