Teens Prayer for December 17th

A short, Scripture-shaped teens prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, Matthew 6 says, "Do not worry about tomorrow. Tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." Today's trouble is enough. I do not need to bring in tomorrow's. Help me put a cap on my worry at twenty-four hours. The conversation I am dreading next week can wait. The exam after Christmas can wait. Today's homework, today's friendships, tonight's sleep, those are mine to handle. This verse is not telling me to be careless. It is telling me that worrying ahead of time does not help tomorrow. It just ruins today. The cap is a kindness. You are the one who sets it. Help me stay on this side of the line. Tomorrow has its own grace ready for it, but it has not come yet. Taking on trouble before Your grace arrives is tiring and not needed. Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.

Verses to pray

Pray these slowly, one line at a time. Scripture quoted from a public-domain translation.
