Theme

Anxiety Prayer

A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.

The prayer

A prayer to pray now

Father, my chest is tight before the day has even started. The phone is on the nightstand. The email is unread. My muscles are braced like something bad is about to come. Philippians 4:6 says, “Do not be anxious about anything, but bring every need to You with prayer and thanks.” So here are my needs. The unfinished work is Yours. The appointment I am dreading is Yours. The conversation I have been putting off is Yours. I cannot make my own peace. But You guard the heart. Set Your guard around mine.

Amen.

How to pray it

  1. Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
  2. Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
  3. Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
