Hypocrisy Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Lord Jesus, You called the religious leaders whitewashed tombs. Outside, they looked clean. Inside, they were full of death. I do not want to read that from a safe distance. The whitewash is in me, too. The smile I wear when I am not okay. The kind voice at church that does not match the impatience at home. The outside shines. The inside does not. I cannot fix this with better paint. Only You can bring life to what is dead inside me. Strip away the false front. Make what I show on the outside match what is true on the inside. Let me be honest before You, even when it is ugly. End the pretending. Make me whole, the same person in every room and every hour. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
