Sin Prayer
A short, Scripture-shaped theme prayer for an ordinary moment of Christian faith.
The prayer
A prayer to pray now
Father, Your Word says all have sinned and fall short of Your glory. That means me. It means everyone. We are all in the same line, waiting at the same window for Your mercy. I have tried to make my sin look smaller than it is. I have called my pride a strong personality. I have called my gossip a shared concern. I have called my unforgiveness a sensible caution. But sin is sin. Your Word does not let me hide behind my labels. And Your grace is just as big as my sin. You justify me by Your grace as a gift, through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus. Both the problem and the cure are total. Keep me from making Your grace small by making my sin small. Help me see how great Your love really is. Amen.
How to pray it
- Read it slowly. Move through this prayer one line at a time, out loud if you can, letting each phrase land before the next.
- Make it personal. Pause where a line meets your day and name the person, fear, or hope it touches before God.
- Carry it with you. Keep one sentence with you — on your phone or in your pocket — and return to it when the day gets loud.
